Abortion Services ~ Follow-up Care

A follow-up examination is very important. After any procedure there can be undetected problems, and follow-up care will help insure that your procedure was successful and you have a healthy recovery. There is no additional cost for a follow-up exam.

You must return 14 days after a medication abortion to be sure that the procedure is complete.

If you have had a surgical abortion, you should have a follow-up exam after 3-4 weeks.

What Happens During Your Follow-Up

When you come to Preterm for your follow-up visit, we will review your chart, history and physical condition since the abortion, and give you a pregnancy test. For medication abortions, you will have a trans-vaginal ultrasound. For surgical procedures, you will have a complete pelvic exam.

We also review birth control information and answer any questions you might have.

If you decide go to your own doctor or clinic for your follow-up exam, you should inquire first what the charge for the exam or ultrasound will be.
