Pledge-a-Picketer
Imagine going to a clinic for a legal medical procedure. As you approach, the street is lined with huge, gruesome photos. Someone is carrying a poster that says you’re committing murder. Someone else might be taking your picture. A man comes up to your car and thrusts a brochure through your open window. It contains outrageous lies about the procedure you’re about to have. As you park your car and walk to the door, people yell terrible things at you.
This is what it’s like at most abortion clinics, where picketers try to deter women from getting abortions and clinic workers from providing abortions. You can’t stop them because the law says that they’re exercising their right to free speech. But you can make them work for a good cause. Sign up for our Pledge-A-Picketer campaign, and we’ll use your tax-deductible donations to keep abortion accessible to low-income women.
How the Campaign Works
- You pledge an amount per picketer per month that you want to donate to Preterm and the number of months you want your pledge to run. We average about 70 picketers a month. You can set a maximum monthly amount.
- We keep track of the number of picketers and send you a bill at the end of each month of your pledge. You can pay by check or credit card.
- We display our own poster in front of Preterm to let our picketers know how much money their presence raised.
- We use your tax-deductible donations to provide Access Fund grants to women in need. In other words, rather than deter women from having abortions, the protestors actually help fund abortions for economically disadvantaged women!

Where Your Pledges Go
Your donations go into Preterm’s Access Fund to keep abortion accessible to low-income women. Every year, we provide support women in desperate circumstances. Here are just two of their stories:
Moira, a pregnant 21-year-old mother of one, was making about $8 an hour at her job. It wasn’t enough to pay her rent and she faced eviction. She had just lost her public assistance because she missed three appointments with her caseworker when her car was repossessed. Her partner was in jail for beating her. We gave her a grant of $625 to cover her abortion services at Preterm.
Sasha had lost her job because she was so sick from her pregnancy. She was 26 years old and had four children. She suffered from mental illness. She was so desperate she tried to get rid of the pregnancy on her own. We gave her a grant of $555 so she could have safe, compassionate abortion care at Preterm.
