Preterm’s board of directors is excited to welcome Jen Moore Conrow, MFS, as the incoming Executive Director of Preterm. She is the third leader in Preterm’s 47-year history. Ms. Moore Conrow follows Chrisse France, who is retiring this summer after serving in the Executive Director role for 22 years.
Prior to joining Preterm, Jen has been an expert consultant for healthcare systems and independent abortion clinics building sustainable abortion care and family planning programs. Jen also provided consulting services with progressive organizations to develop strategic plans, sustainable operations, and organizational growth.
As the Director of PEACE Family Planning and Pregnancy Loss Center at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Jen oversaw the residency and fellowship education programs that trained the next generation of abortion providers, including nurses and advanced practice clinicians. In this role she also grew the program and expanded its clinical operations to new hospital sites.
Jen began her career in public policy at NARAL: Pro-Choice America and found her calling in the world of clinical abortion and pregnancy loss care. For nearly a decade at Cherry Hill Women’s Center, Jen was part of a leadership team that defined quality later abortion care, while also working actively in the local and national community to destigmatize abortion and to increase access to care.
Jen is a founding board member of the Abortion Care Network, of which Preterm is a long-time member. She is also a member of the National Abortion Federation.
“It's an honor to join Preterm as executive director. I'm thrilled to be able to bring my experience to this incredible team of providers and advocates to ensure continued access to community-based abortion and sexual healthcare for people in Cleveland and throughout Ohio,” stated Ms. Moore Conrow. “Access to abortion care is vital for individuals and families to thrive. I look forward to working with Preterm’s staff, board of directors, and the broader community of reproductive health, rights, and justice advocates to build on Chrisse’s incredible leadership and legacy, and to secure a sustainable future for accessible care.”
“The board of directors is confident that Jen will be an inspiring organizational leader, center our patients and the local community, and bring a valuable perspective on the challenges facing independent abortion clinics,” said Jessie Hill, board president. “Jen’s proven leadership and organizational management skills, together with her deep understanding of abortion clinic operations and our movement equip her to move Preterm forward, even in the face of continued attacks on abortion access from the state of Ohio and a looming U.S. Supreme Court case that could change the landscape of abortion care.”
Vanessa Arenas, Preterm’s deputy director, who previously served as an abortion counselor alongside Jen at Cherry Hill Women’s Center in New Jersey noted, “I am delighted to work with Jen again. We are ready to build a strong partnership to collaboratively lead Preterm through this new chapter, focusing on giving our staff the tools and resources they need to continue providing the empathetic, respectful abortion and sexual healthcare our patients deserve. I’m eager to advance the work toward a reproductive justice and anti-racist framework for our patients and staff.”
“The board’s decision to hire Jen gives me great hope for the future of Preterm,” said outgoing executive director Chrisse France. “I’m delighted to pass the baton to such a strong and trusted leader in abortion care. I am so proud of the team I have had the honor of working with at Preterm for the past 22 years, and Jen is fortunate to have the skills and strength of Preterm’s board and staff behind her as she takes on the role of Executive Director. Preterm is in good hands.”
Moore Conrow will begin as executive director on June 21st, with France staying on in a consulting role to facilitate the transition. A celebration of Chrisse France’s career and a welcome for Jen Moore Conrow will take place on September 24, 2021 with more details forthcoming.
