Abortion Care
Single-Appointment Abortion Care Available
As of 8/23/2024, the 24-hour waiting period is no longer in effect. This means some patients can receive their consultation and abortion in one day. This is subject to availability.

Abortion is very common.
1 in 4 individuals will have an abortion by the age of 45
There are two types of abortion—surgical abortion and medication (nonsurgical) abortion. Preterm offers both types. Both types are safe and effective. Our staff will help you decide which method is right for you.
At Preterm, we address both your physical and emotional needs. We offer a variety of pain management and sedation options. Every appointment for an abortion includes routine lab work, ultrasound, routine antibiotics, and a birth control prescription or sample.
Every appointment also includes a private discussion with a patient advocate. Here, you can ask questions and explore your decision in a confidential, nonjudgmental atmosphere. We also discuss your other pregnancy options, the abortion procedure, and birth control methods.
If you are pregnant, you have options. Only you can decide what is best for you, but we can help. We trust you to make the choice that is best for you and your unique situation. Call us, and one of our caring staff members will help you get the health care you need.
Many of our patients receive financial assistance to help cover some part of the cost of their abortion services at Preterm. If you are worried about your ability to pay for your abortion, please talk to us.

Minors: 17 years or younger

In Ohio, minors (people who are 17 years old or younger) need to have an extra consent form to get an abortion. This consent must be completed before the minor can have an abortion. There are two options to get that consent form: parent/legal guardian consent or a judicial bypass.

Parent/Legal Guardian Consent

Parents or legal guardians can give their consent for a minor to have an abortion. Preterm will provide a consent form that a parent or guardian can complete either at Preterm with a notary or we can email the form. It can be completed and notarized elsewhere and brought in to the appointment. If the form is completed at Preterm, the parent/legal guardian must bring proof of parenthood or legal guardianship. This would include a government ID for the parent/guardian and a birth certificate or papers stating guardianship.

Judicial Bypass

If a minor is not able or does not want to get consent from their parent or guardian, they can
apply for a judicial bypass. A judicial bypass requires going before a judge in the county that the minor lives in. Minors can get help with this process from the Abortion Fund of Ohio: Youth Abortion Access.
