Abortion is legal in Ohio until the detection of fetal cardiac activity by ultrasound.
Ohio law requires patients to undergo tests to detect fetal cardiac activity prior to an abortion. If any cardiac activity is detected, abortion is prohibited except when there is serious risk of death or substantial impairment of a major bodily function. Cardiac activity is typically detected within six weeks of gestation.
Pregnant people who cannot get an abortion in Ohio due to this law can still receive an abortion out-of-state.
