Follow-up Appointments

Your follow-up appointment is an important part of your abortion care at Preterm.

If you had a medication abortion, it is essential that you return 14 days after to be sure that the procedure is complete. If you had a surgical abortion, you should have a follow-up exam after 3-4 weeks.

The appointment takes about 30 minutes.

• You'll take a pregnancy test and meet with a nurse to go over information about how you are doing physically. If you had a surgical abortion, you will have a pelvic exam. If you had a medication abortion, you will have a trans-vaginal ultrasound. (Please wear a two-piece outfit.)
• If you'd like to talk to someone about how you are feeling emotionally, you can meet privately with a patient advocate.
• Birth control supplies and prescriptions are also available at this appointment.
• Feel free to ask any questions you have about your sexual and reproductive health.

Your follow-up exam is covered in the fee for your abortion.

If you go to your own doctor or clinic, be sure to inquire about the charges for an exam or ultrasound. Talk to your doctor about your follow-up care and ask any additional questions you have.
